Summary: This illustrated children's story is about a gay couple (two male dogs), told in terms of friendship. No big deal is made of the fact they are both male and clearly partners, instead the story focuses on the quest of one of the dogs (Custard) to find a birthday present for the other (Mustard). Along the way we meet some of the other characters on Rainbow Street, who have their own stories in the Rainbow Street Series. The heart-warming conclusion of the story comes when Custard is unable to find a present special enough, and Mustard tells Custard not to worry because their friendship is the best present he could hope for. The story is aimed at young children, using animals rather than humans, to explore the idea that same-sex relationships are just as natural as same-sex friendships.
